Let’s face it: many people have argued that the wall is an index of primitivity on the side of Trump and his present administration that America should stand tall to providing hope for the hopeless searching for much better lives in the US. This is true but must America do that at the expense of her people? Should America not guard their loins properly? These are some of the questions that need adequate answers.
Going back to the memory lane, construction of walls was never a ploy to send wrong messages to the people willing to come to the United States. The ancient walls in the history were built for defensive purpose and for security reasons. One of the oldest known cities, Jericho in modern day Palestine, was walled as early as 8000 BC (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2019). The 600-meter long stone wall was built and improved over several hundred years.
In Mexico, a small Mayan city of Tulum was surrounded on three sides by a 740 m long wall around year 1200, for defense against larger city-states (Bley, 2011). Same thing happened in Japan In 1281, as a 20 km stonewall Genko Borui was built against Mongol invasion, and it is said to have contributed to the defeat of the invaders (Vallet, 2016). Though, the purposes have changed a little bit nowadays, as walls are being built to prevent terrorism, smuggling, and illegal emigration. There is a common denominated here and that is, to prevent authorized people out of the country.
Donald Trump’s adamant on keeping illegal emigrants out of the United States is understandable, as there have been so many illegal activities going on at those borders. It is great step to stem these illegal activities at the borders. The US-Mexican wall will help to deter drug smuggling.
Most illicit drugs are delivered into the US in vehicles with secret compartments and difficult-to-inspect shipping cargo using legal checkpoints. Drugs are also conveyed through elaborate systems of tunnels under the wall. Between 1990 and 2016, 224 tunnels were discovered, some with air vents, rails and electric lights (US DEA, 2016).
Many Americans who strongly believe in the open-border policies are not in good relationship with Trump and as such, they think he is being insensitive and unreasonable. However, to those who understand there has to be some level of security and sanity within the countries know and believe Trump’s decision is a great one and genius idea too.

There is doubt that building of walls have the of the both past and the present days and it is for security reasons. Walls are built to curtail terrorist activities, walls are built to checkmate the illegal smuggling of hard drugs and the likes and also walls are built to prevent illegal migrations into countries. Hence, the US-Mexico wall is a great thing to do and it is an indication of sensitivity of the part of this current administration. No doubt, America has been a very accommodating country and will continue to be especially to the legal migrants.
